Insulation Removal

The real reason to remove your insulation

Plenty of attics can simply be topped off. But when insulation is wet, contaminated, rodent-damaged, or just worn out, removing it does something a top-off never can: it gives us clean access to the ceiling plane — the one and only time we can do the work that actually makes your attic perform.

With the insulation gone and the deck exposed, we can air seal every gap, top plate, can light, and penetration that’s been leaking your conditioned air for years. And we can install ventilation baffles at the eaves so your soffit vents can actually breathe.

Skip those two steps and you’re just burying the same problems under new insulation. Do them right, and your new insulation finally performs the way it’s rated to — drier, quieter, and far more efficient.

What's included

How we handle it

Complete Vacuum-Out

Commercial insulation vacuums pull out old blown-in and batt insulation down to the deck — fast, sealed, and contained so dust stays out of your home.

Air Sealing the Ceiling

With the attic empty, we seal top plates, wiring and plumbing penetrations, can lights, and the attic hatch — the leaks you can never reach once insulation is back down.

Ventilation Baffles

We install baffles (rafter vents) at the eaves so your soffit intake air flows up and out the ridge. Proper airflow keeps the deck dry, prevents mold, and protects your roof.

Air sealing + ventilation

Why baffles & air sealing matter so much

Insulation only slows heat — it doesn’t stop air. If air is leaking through your ceiling and your attic can’t breathe, even a thick layer of new insulation underperforms and can trap moisture. Removal is your one chance to fix both.

  • Baffles keep insulation from blocking your soffit vents
  • Proper intake-to-ridge airflow keeps the roof deck dry
  • Good ventilation prevents mold, rot, and ice-dam damage
  • Air sealing stops the drafts insulation alone can’t
  • Together they let your new R-value actually perform

Common questions

Insulation Removal, answered

Do I always need my old insulation removed?+
No. If it’s dry and clean we can often top it off. Removal makes sense when insulation is wet, contaminated, rodent-damaged, or worn out — and it’s the only time we can properly air seal and add baffles.
What are ventilation baffles and why do they matter?+
Baffles (also called rafter vents) keep a clear air channel at the eaves so air can flow in through your soffit vents, up the roof deck, and out the ridge. Without them, insulation blocks the vents, the attic can’t breathe, and you risk trapped moisture, mold, and roof damage.
Why air seal during a removal?+
With the insulation gone, the ceiling plane is fully exposed — the only time we can reach and seal every top plate, can light, and penetration. Sealing these leaks is what lets your new insulation actually perform.
Can you remove, air seal, baffle, and re-insulate the same day?+
In most homes, yes — the full sequence is completed in a single visit.
